Dividing Fractions:
1. Leave the first fraction in the equation alone.
2.Turn the division sign into a multiplication sign.
3.Flip the second fraction over (find its reciprocal).
4. Multiply the numerators (top numbers) of the two fractions together. This result will be the numerator (top portion) of your answer. [2]
5. Multiply the denominators (bottom numbers) of the two fractions together. The result will be the denominator of your answer.
6. Simplify your fraction by reducing it to the simplest terms.
2/3 divided by 1/3 =
2/3 divided by 3/1 (reciprical = flipped fraction) = 6/3 =3/1 =3 - simplified

Numerical Expressions:
a combination of numbers and operations (+,-,x,/)
multiply three by two, then subtract by 1 =
(3x2) - 1
add 7 and 11, then divide by 2=
(7+11)/2
subtract 4 from 20, then divide by 2=
(20-4)/2
LCM- Least Common Multiple
A multiple of a number is the product of the number and any other whole number.
Multiples that are shared by two or more numbers are common multiples.
The LEAST COMMON MULTIPLE is the least multiple other than 0, common to sets of multiples.
3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18,...
4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24,... LCM = 12
6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36,...
CHAPTER 10 - Multiplying and Dividing Fractions
Changing a mixed number to an improper fraction:
- Multiply the whole number part by the fraction's denominator.
- Add that to the numerator.
- Then write the result on top of the denominator.
Changing improper fraction to a mixed number.
- Divide the numerator by the denominator.
- Write down the whole number answer.
- Then write down any remainder above the denominator.
Multiplying Whole Numbers and Fractions:
1/6 x 24 =
1. Write the whole number as a fraction by placing it over 1.
24/1
2. Multiply the numerators then denominators. 1 x 24 = 24, 6 x 1 =6
So, 24/6
3. Simplify. 24/6 = 4
Multiplying fractions:
1. Multiply numerators then denominators.
3/4 x 2/3 = 6/12
2. Simplify. 6/12 = 1/2
So, 3/4 x 2/3 = 1/2
Multiply Mixed Numbers:
3 1/2 x 1/2 =
1. Change mixed number to an improper fraction.
3 1/2 = 7/2, now it is 7/2 x 1/2
2. Multiply fractions. 7/2 x 1/2 = 7/4
3. Simplify. 7/4 = 1 3/4
Multiplying Mixed Numbers:
1. Write each mixed number as an improper fraction.
1 1/2 x 3 3/4 =
3/2 x 15/4 =
2. Multiply.
3 x 15 = 45
2 x 4 = 8 So. 3/2 x 15/4 = 45/8
3. Simplify by turning back into a mixed number in lowest terms. 45/8 = 5 5/8
Dividing Fractions by Whole Numbers:
6. Simplify your fraction by reducing it to the lowest term
